The paste should be soaked for 1-2hs in about 1;1 or 1:2 weight of a bridging solvent, such as butyl glycol. Dispersion is then achieved by low energy stirring, using a slow speed blade capable of moving the whole mass. Further solvent, water or medium may be added at this stage. When a smooth consistency, free of soft aggregates has been obtained, the balance of the formulation may be slowed added. High shear should be avoided, as it bends and breaks the flakes, reducing their brightness. As the water stability can be system dependent, small-scale trials should be carried out to verify the required level of performance.
