SILBERCOTE® PC-1303Z Aluminium Pigment

-Non-leafing aluminium flake pigment

-Dry powder form

-Dust containment packaging

-Acrylic coated for chemical resistance

PC 1303Z is a very coarse particle size aluminium flake pigment, surface treated for easy dispersibility and increased stability in powder coatings. Unlike a conventional metal pigment paste, this grade is supplied as a dry powder to offer greater application versatility and is suitable for dry blending or bonding in powder coatings. To reduce environmental contamination and the explosion risk of dry aluminium flakes, it is packaged in bags permeable to liquids but not the metal. PC 1303Z provides good face colour and high sparkle with excellent stability. It has particularly high chemical stability in powder coatings due to its advanced acrylic surface treatment.

For powder coatings, the packaging should be cut open and the pigment gently combined at 4-6% loading with the powder coating to provide a ready-to-spray composition. For liquid coatings, the bag may be cut open and the contents allowed to discharge gently onto the surface of the solvent. If using solvent alone is not feasible, the medium can be substituted, but dispersion time may be extended. Dispersion is best achieved by low energy stirring, using a blade capable of moving the whole mass. Further solvent or medium may be added at this stage. When a smooth consistency, free of aggregates has been obtained, the remainder of the formulation can be slowly added. High shear should be avoided as it causes flake damage, thereby reducing brightness. Further information is provided in the leaflet “PI-AFIB”.

Aluminum pigment should be stored in the original shipping container and kept tightly sealed. Store containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and properly rated area. Avoid any conditions that will suspend or float the particles in the air, creating a dust cloud. Avoid all possible sources of ignition. For additional information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product, available from Silberline upon request. An SDS is supplied with all samples of this grade.
