01ETERNABRITE® E-651

ETERNABRITE® E-651 Aluminium Paste

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

ETERNABRITE E 651 is a very fine particle size, leafing type aluminum flake pigment paste. It has greater covering power than ETERNABRITE E 301 and more polish than ETERNABRITE® E 601. This grade is recommended for solvent-based surface coatings in which a highly reflective, lustrous metallic effect is required.

-Leafing

-Fine leafing grade

-Exceptional reflectivity

PRODUCT APPLICATION

ETERNABRITE pigments are leafing aluminum pigment pastes carried in isopropyl alcohol. These grades are based on cornflake geometry and offer enhanced leafing properties in solvent and waterborne flexographic and gravure inks for stronger metallic effects. Although ETERNABRITE pigments can be used in aqueous inks, they are not treated to protect against the aluminum-water reaction and special care must be taken to evaluate the gassing stability of each grade in the final ink formulation. High or excessive shear during ink production can initiate the aluminum-water reaction. Care must be taken to avoid excessive or high shear during processing when used in ink formulations containing water.

INCORPORATION GUIDELINES

The paste should be soaked in about its own weight of solvent, ideally for one to eight hours. Strong solvents, i.e. those that are highly polar, are best avoided as they can reduce the leafing effect. If using solvent alone is not feasible, the liquid coating medium can be substituted, but the dispersion time may be extended. Dispersion is best achieved by low energy stirring, using a slow speed blade capable of moving the whole mass. Further solvent or medium may be added at this stage. When a smooth consistency, free of soft aggregates has been obtained, the balance of the formulation may be slowly added. High shear should be avoided as it bends and breaks the flakes, reducing their brightness and leafing effect.

SAFETY AND HANDLING

Aluminum pigment should be stored in the original shipping container and kept tightly sealed. Store containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and properly rated area. Avoid any conditions that will suspend or float the particles in the air, creating a dust cloud. Avoid all possible sources of ignition. For additional information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product, available from Silberline upon request. An SDS is supplied with all samples of this grade.
