AQUAVEX® PLUS 013
AQUAVEX® PLUS 013
-Non-leafing fine particle size aluminium pigment in a non-ionic surfactant carrier
-High brightness and high opacity
-Passivated for use in water-based systems
-APEO/NPEO free
-Good adhesion, “split proofness”
AQUAVEX Plus 013 is a fine particle size cornflake pigment supplied in a pellet form. Resistance to tape testing/”split proofness” is dependent on the ink formulation. The pigment is passivated to resist aqueous attack and is combined with non-ionic surfactant (alcohol ethoxylate) to give pellets having the properties of low dusting and easy dispersibility in water. It exhibits high opacity, resulting in a lower pigment usage. Recommended applications are water-based inks.

The recommended method of dispersion is to soak the granules in 1-2 times their weight of water for a maximum of eighteen hours, then mix gently to a creamy consistency, free of agglomerates by low shear stirring. When completely dispersed, the balance of the formulation may be slowly added under gentle but efficient agitation. To avoid damage to the pigment flakes that could induce gassing and reduce the metallic effect, agitation should be efficient but low shear. If it is necessary to use high shear to dissolve or disperse any component of the binder, this should be done before introducing the aluminium pigment. The final pH should be as close to neutral as possible. As the water stability of this grade is very system dependent, small – scale trials are recommended to verify the required level of performance.
Aluminum pigment should be stored in the original shipping container and kept tightly sealed. Store containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and properly rated area. Avoid any conditions that will suspend or float the particles in the air, creating a dust cloud. Avoid all possible sources of ignition. For additional information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product, available from Silberline upon request. An SDS is supplied with all samples of this grade.
