STARBRITE® UV 4200 Vacuum Metallized Aluminium Pigment for use in UV Curing Systems

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

STARBRITE UV 4200 is a stabilised vacuum metallised pigment for use in UV curing systems. The pigment provides a smooth mid chrome-like metallic appearance in inks and coatings. • Highly specular aluminium platelets- inks with very high Distinctness of Image (DOI) possible • High opacity • Very low residual solvent content • Leafing appearance whilst retaining ability to overprint • Mineral oils not used in the manufacturing process • Passivated/stabilised for one pack UV systems • Supplied as a concentrated dispersion to allow more “formulation” space. • Carried in a widely compatible acrylate – ethoxylated trimethylol propane triacrylate: TMP(EO)3TA.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

STARBRITE UV 4200 has been produced to allow coatings and inks with very high DOI to be produced for end use in the packaging, commercial, roll label and display markets. The treatment of the metal surface allows the production of very high reflectivity prints whilst retaining good overprint characteristics. One pack, pot stable, products can be formulated. Testing should be carried out to ensure ultimate end use suitability. Please contact our HSE and Quality Functions Manager for any compliance issues/statements.

INCORPORATION GUIDELINES

The product should be mixed, under minimal shear, with about half as much of the lower viscosity components, by weight, of the formulation until the material is uniform and of a “creamy” consistency. The rest of the ingredients can be added under minimal shear until everything is well blended. In all cases mixing, using a slow speed blade capable of moving the whole mass, should be the method of choice. High shear should be avoided as it bends and breaks the flakes, reducing both brightness and is likely to reduce pot life by causing premature gelation at the exposed metal surfaces. Trials are recommended to verify the required level of performance.

SAFETY AND HANDLING

Aluminum pigment should be stored in the original shipping container and kept tightly sealed. Store containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and properly rated area. Avoid any conditions that will suspend or float the particles in the air, creating a dust cloud. Avoid all possible sources of ignition. For additional information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product, available from Silberline upon request. An SDS is supplied with all samples of this grade.
