01SILVET® AD 015

SILVET® AD 015 Aluminum Pigment

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

SILVET AD 015 presents a medium-fine particle size grade of non-leafing aluminum flake pigment in an easily handled, low dusting, dry granular form. The high metal content has been chosen to maximize formulation flexibility while ensuring easy dispersibility in printing ink applications. This grade is especially suitable for solvent-based gravure and flexographic inks, in which it displays optimal opacity and adhesion, particularly on polymer films. SILVET AD 015 is dispersible in all common organic solvents, except aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is compatible with a wide range of film formers, such as NC, PVB and acrylics, but is unsuitable for water-based systems.

-Medium-Fine particle size aluminum flake pigment

-Low dusting

-Dry granular form

-Excellent adhesion in solvent-based inks

-Cornflake

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SILVET AD grades are non-leafing aluminum pigments designed for use in solventborne flexographic and gravure inks to provide optimal adhesion to polymer films and other substrates. They are similar to Silberline’s SILVET “J” technology, but have been reformulated to improve adhesion properties. SILVET AD grades are supplied in pellet form composed of 80% aluminum pigment and 20% carrier resin. The carrier resin contributes to the resin solids of the ink formulation. Cost savings can be realized by adjusting the resin solids of the ink to accommodate the resin contribution from the pigment pellet. Like SILVET “J” products, SILVET AD grades provide excellent compatibility, ease of handling and ease of dispersion.

INCORPORATION GUIDELINES

The recommended method of dispersion is to soak the granules in one to two times their weight of solvent, then mix gently to a creamy consistency, free of agglomerates by low shear stirring. When completely dispersed, the balance of the formulation may be slowly added under gentle but efficient agitation. High shear mixing should be avoided as it bends and breaks the aluminum flakes, causing darkening and loss of reflectivity.

SAFETY AND HANDLING

Aluminum pigment should be stored in the original shipping container and kept tightly sealed. Store containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and properly rated area. Avoid any conditions that will suspend or float the particles in the air, creating a dust cloud. Avoid all possible sources of ignition. For additional information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product, available from Silberline upon request. An SDS is supplied with all samples of this grade.
